The PADI Open Water Diver course is a comprehensive and structured training program that prepares you for safe and enjoyable diving. The course is divided into three key components:
1. Knowledge Development (Theory)
In this phase, you’ll learn the essential principles of scuba diving. Through theory lessons, you’ll gain the knowledge necessary to understand the science and safety behind diving. Topics include:
The Effects of Pressure: Learn how the pressure changes as you descend and ascend in the water and how your body reacts to it.
Dive Tables: Understand how to use dive tables or dive computers to plan safe dives and avoid decompression sickness.
Safety Practices: Learn critical dive safety techniques, such as how to handle emergencies, dive with a buddy, and ensure safe entry and exit from the water.
Scuba Equipment: Get familiar with the different types of scuba gear, including masks, fins, regulators, buoyancy control devices (BCDs), and tanks, and understand how to use them properly.
2. Confined Water Training
After gaining the basic knowledge, it’s time to get hands-on! Confined water training takes place in our calm lagoon waters, where you can practice key scuba skills in a safe.
In this part of the course, you’ll:
Learn to Use Scuba Gear: Get comfortable wearing and using all your diving equipment, from the regulator to the BCD, and understand how they work together.
Equalize Your Ears: As you descend underwater, pressure builds in your ears, so you’ll learn how to equalize the pressure to stay comfortable and safe.
Master Buoyancy Control: One of the most important skills in diving is buoyancy control. You’ll practice using your buoyancy control device (BCD) to maintain neutral buoyancy, so you can move smoothly and efficiently underwater.
Essential Skills Practice: Skills like clearing your mask, recovering your regulator, and performing emergency procedures will be practiced until they become second nature.
This controlled environment allows you to build confidence and competence with your gear and skills before venturing into open water.
3. Open Water Dives
Now that you’ve mastered the basics, it’s time to put your knowledge and skills to the test in real-world conditions! During the four open water dives, you’ll explore the ocean or another natural dive site, practicing the skills you’ve learned while experiencing the thrill of underwater exploration.
Here’s what you’ll do:
Explore the Ocean: You’ll get to dive in a real dive site, such as a reef, to see marine life and explore the stunning underwater world.
Practice Your Skills: Each open water dive gives you the opportunity to apply and perfect the skills you practiced in confined water, including buoyancy control, air sharing, and mask clearing.
Build Confidence: As you dive deeper and further, you’ll gain more experience and confidence, allowing you to dive more freely and safely.
Instructor Guidance: Throughout the open water dives, your instructor will be there to guide you, offer tips, and ensure that you’re comfortable at every step.
Ready to Dive?
By the end of the course, you’ll be equipped with the skills and confidence to dive independently to a depth of 18 meters (60 feet) and continue your diving adventures around the world.
PADI Junior Open Water Diver
Children aged 10-11 years old will receive the PADI Junior Open Water Diver certification. Junior divers in this age group are limited to a maximum depth of 12 meters (40 feet) for their dives.
At 12 years old, they can increase their depth limit to 18 meters (60 feet) but will still hold the Junior Open Water Diver certification until they turn 15 years old.
Once they reach the age of 15, they’ll transition to the full PADI Open Water Diver certification, which allows diving to the maximum depth of 18 meters (60 feet) or more, without any age-related restrictions.
