What You’ll Learn
The course includes both theory and hands-on diving experience:
1. Knowledge Development
Through self-paced eLearning or instructor-led sessions, you’ll cover:
Dive planning and site selection for drift diving
Equipment use (e.g. reels, lines, SMBs)
Procedures for staying together and managing group drift dives
Handling emergencies in current conditions
2. Two Open Water Dives
You’ll complete two exhilarating drift dives under the guidance of a PADI Instructor. You’ll practice:
Entry and descent in a current
Maintaining depth and buoyancy
Communication with your buddy and surface support
Deployment and use of SMBs

Yes, you must be a certified PADI Open Water Diver (or hold an equivalent certification from another agency) and at least 12 years old.
Drift diving is safe when done properly. The PADI Drift Diver course teaches you how to plan and execute drift dives safely, manage currents, and use proper equipment like surface marker buoys.
You’ll use standard scuba gear along with some specialized equipment:
Surface Marker Buoy (SMB)
Reel or spool
Drift line (if needed) All of this will be explained and practiced during the course.
